We provide user research and design services to help build a deep understanding of the end-user’s unmet needs, wants and motivations – which helps shape the design and development of new solutions and experiences.

We provide user research and design services to help build a deep understanding of the end-user’s unmet needs, wants and motivations – which helps shape the design and development of new solutions and experiences.

Major duties include:

  • Assisting on user research to identify pain points and areas of improvement. 
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to develop personas, journeys, wireframes, prototypes, and interactive designs. 
  • Analyzing user data and metrics to measure the effectiveness of design changes. 
  • Assisting in the development of design guidelines and best practices. 
  • Participating in design critiques and providing constructive feedback to team members. 
  • Staying up-to-date with industry trends and best practices in user experience design. 
  • Assisting in the development and documentation of user experience design processes and methodologies. 
  • Contributing to the creation and maintenance of design documentation. 

Qualifications:  

  • Strong understanding of user-centered design principles and methodologies. 
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams. 
  • Strong communicator with the ability to present content in informative and interesting ways, both written and verbally. 
  • Attention to detail and ability to analyze and interpret user data. 
  • Creativity and problem-solving skills to come up with innovative design solutions. 
  • A portfolio showcasing relevant design projects or coursework. 
  • Ability to adapt to a fast-paced and dynamic work environment. Proven track record of researching and analyzing emerging technologies  
  • Pursuing a degree in a relevant field such as Human-Computer Interaction, User Experience Design, Psychology, or Design.  
  • Must be able to commit to a regular schedule during standard business hours (12-15 hours per week during the semester; 35-40 hours during the summer)  
  • Cumulative minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0, or equivalent 
  • Authorized to work in the US on a permanent basis without requiring visa sponsorship 
  • Must be registered as a full-time student  
  • UIUC students are expected to work 50% of their hours per week in person at our site in Research Park.  

Preferred:

  • Familiarity with design tools such as Sketch, Adobe XD, or Figma. 
  • Knowledge of prototyping tools such as InVision or Axure. 
  • Familiarity with front-end development languages such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript

Note: The position will be hired through a third-party hiring agency and will begin Spring 2024, with an option to continue through the following semesters, depending on performance and project funding.

Information Research Academic Partnerships embeds students within AbbVie businesses to collaborate on projects that help advance our science. During the regular fall and spring semesters, this program is designed for students to work 12-15 hours/week in parallel with their school schedule. During the summer, students are expected to work 35-40 hours/week.
