LifeFoundry is a startup in the University of Illinois Research Park that uses fully automated synthetic biology to engineer organisms for production of value-added chemicals. Using robotics and advanced algorithms we hope to take biotechnology R&D to a whole new level.

We are looking for an intern/co-op hardware engineer for electronic design to join us in the effort of revolutionizing biotechnology research. You will work closely with a team of engineers on development of smart devices to enable novel functionalities on our robotic high-throughput biomanufacturing platform which performs cutting-edge biotechnology research.

The robotic research platform you will help to build has the potential to increase the throughput in biotech R&D by orders of magnitude, eliminate human error, and produce chemicals for a variety of applications. We would love to have you on board for this exciting journey!


·       Design, prototyping, and testing of the electronic and some mechanical components for smart devices to help biotech R&D.

·       Development of control algorithms and drivers for these devices


·       This position is open to students in EE, ME, IE, GE, CompE and related majors with senior standing or above.

·       At least one year of related experience

·       Proficient in circuits, microcontroller, motor control, PCB design, machine design, and 3D printing.

·       Excited to join a fast-paced interdisciplinary team working on a variety of challenging projects

·       Self-motivated and able to work under minimal supervision

·       Able to solve problems with methodical and critical thinking
